Stripe Account Scam
What Small Businesses and NFPs Need to Know (12 August 2025
At Red Flagg™, we work with small businesses and not-for-profits every day, so we know how important it is to keep your payment systems safe. Lately, there’s been a spike in scams aimed at Stripe accounts. They often look genuine but are designed to steal your passwords, login codes or banking details.
If your business or organisation uses Stripe, here’s what you need to know.
How This Scam Works
You might get an email or phone call that looks like it’s from Stripe. The scammer might say your payouts are paused, there’s a billing issue, or your account is under review. The aim is to make you worry so you click a link or give them your account details.
Some will even call you pretending to be from Stripe and ask for passwords or codes. Stripe will never ring you out of the blue.
How to Protect Your Organisation
Only sign in to Stripe from your own saved bookmark to stripe.com
Check the sender real Stripe emails come from stripe.com, not look-alike addresses with extra letters or numbers
Don’t click links in suspicious emails or text messages
Turn on two step login for extra protection, using a code from an app or security key
Never give passwords or security codes over the phone — even if the caller says they are from Stripe
Why This Matters for Small Business and NFPs
Payment disruptions can mean lost income, delayed services and extra stress for your team. Scammers know this and use it to pressure you into acting quickly. That’s why it’s important to pause, check and confirm before taking any action.
