Scam Alert Trends at a Glance (2 June 2025)
At Red Flagg™ we know scams are everywhere and can catch anyone off guard, so we’ve put together the latest trends in a simple, easy to scan format. Remember, anyone can fall victim, so if you’re ever unsure about a message, just check with Red Flagg™. We’re here to help you stay safe.
Impersonation Scams
Scammers pretend to be your boss or a colleague, often found via LinkedIn or company websites, and they use a casual, urgent tone to ask you to share details or buy gift cards via email, text or WhatsApp.
It works because recognisable names and roles build trust, casual messages make you let your guard down and a sense of urgency prompts quick action.
Quick tips:
• Check the full email address or phone number, not just the display name
• Call or visit to confirm any unusual request
• Forward or screenshot any suspicious message to Red Flagg™ for advice
Business Email Compromise (BEC)
Scam messages claim to be from ANZ, warning of account problems or fake transactions, and they include a link to a realistic but fake login page.
Authentic looking branding fools people and urgent warnings like “verify now or risk suspension” prompt quick clicks.
Quick tips:
• Never click links in unexpected banking messages
• Instead log in via your bank’s official app or type the URL yourself
• If in doubt, check with Red Flagg™ before acting
